As you enter the new world of pizza making at home there is always a learning curve to achieving greatness. To get you started we figured there are some questions that someone starting out might have. So, we wanted to help answer them to get you confident in starting out.
How Do I Get Started Making Pizza at Home?
It starts with the right tools, and the All-Clad Pizza Oven is built to eliminate the guesswork. You’ll need three essentials:
- A high-heat pizza oven with a pizza peel to slide your pies in and out.
- A reliable pizza dough (you can make it or buy high-quality pre-made). If you are looking for a basic dough to start with, check out our Pizza dough recipe.
- A few staple toppings (sauce, cheese, olive oil, and a few other of your favorite toppings)

Why Does the Spinning Stone Matter?
Consistency matters. The spinning stone removes the human error of turning your own pie and allows for even cooking. This is going to deliver on the uniform cooking of the crust compared to turning it yourself where it is not as simple to achieve. It’s especially important at high temps, where seconds can make the difference between blistered and burnt pizza dough. This innovation helps every time as it is turning at just the right speed to give every pizza perfect balance in the execution.
What is the optimal temperature and cooking time for the best results?
To give you the best results, you will want your pizza oven to hover around 750 degrees. When you start the oven, it will take approximately 15-20 minutes to get to this temperature. This time will depend on the environment. If the temperature outside is cooler or if it is a windy day, it might take longer than a hot summer day with no breeze. Once the oven is at the right temperature, it should take no more than 2 minutes to cook the pizza to that perfect crust and doneness.
The pizza oven is also engineered with an integrated thermometer so that you can regulate the temperature where you need it.

What are some pro tips to make better pizza at home just like your favorite pizza restaurant?
- Make sure your dough is at room temperature when you start. Starting with cold dough will be harder to work, leave you an unevenly cooked product, along with leaving you with less spring to the finished product like the airy crust you desire.
- After you have worked the dough, you can now assemble your pie directly on your peel. Just make sure you dust the bottom of the peel with semolina flour. This is going to help make sure the dough slides right off the peel when putting in the oven to cook.
- If you do decide to use fresh mozzarella instead of pre-cut cheese, you want to press moisture out of it first before using. As delicious as it is, it does hold a lot of moisture, which could leave you with a watery result after being cooked.
- Give your pizza oven the proper time to get to the right temperature before getting started. It’s a simple step, but crucial.
- If making a classic Neapolitan pizza, after you are done cooking it, give it a nice generous drizzle of good olive oil on top. It adds such a beautiful finish but if done before cooking, you will burn the oil, making for a unwanted burnt oil note to your pie.
