FAQ

What is the grade of stainless used?

All-Clad Forged Knives are made with X50CrMoV15 Germain Stainless Steel which features a high amount of chromium paired with the perfect balance of manganese, silicon, and carbon making it a strong, hard option with excellent corrosion resistance. To maximize the performance of All-Clad Forged Knives, the steel undergoes a cryogenic treatment during the manufacturing process, giving blades the perfect balance of sharpness, durability, and corrosion resistance.

What material is the handle made of?

Our handles are made of polyoxyethylene (POM for short) and feature a triple-riveted design and angled bolster.  POM is a common choice of knife handles as it is a dense, durable synthetic plastic that resists fading and discoloration.

Where are All-Clad Forged Knives manufactured?

The blades are made from German Stainless Steel sourced by the supplier, then the final product is manufactured in China. The scissors, honing steel, and block are manufactured in China.

Why are they designed without a fingerguard?

There are traditionally 2 types of knife designs - the western 'German' style with a fingerguard and the Japanese style without.  All-Clad Forged Knives follow the Japanese style, leaving the backend of the blade exposed to help facilitate multiple grip positions and use/sharpening of the whole blade.

Are they dishwasher safe?

We do not recommend using a dishwasher to clean your All-Clad Forged Knives and accessories as this can easily dull the cutting edge.  we recommend handwashing in warm soapy water with a non-abrasive sponge and towel dry immediately after usage and storing back into the wood block or a knife sleeve to protect the blade.  Please do not soak your knives in soapy water as this could lead to corrosion over time and possible injury if the knives cannot be seen clearly underwater.

How and when should All-Clad Forged Knives be sharpened?

The frequency of sharpening will depend on the frequency and type of use.  A good test is to slice through a piece of paper and if it leaves a jagged trail or is difficult to move through the paper, it's time to sharpen your knife.

In our knife block set, we provide a honing rod.  Honing can be done frequently to reshape the blade to help it stay sharp longer.  Sharpening is done less often but is when you physically shave material from the dull blade to restore sharpness.  We recommend contacting a sharpening professional for this task.
